An electronic database indexing over 4,500 scholarly publications in all areas of study. Full-text access is available for more than 3,600 journals. Coverage spans from the first published issue of a journal to the present.
Academic Search Complete contains 18,000+ multidisciplinary titles indexed and abstracted (16,000+ are peer-reviewed) and 9,000+ full-text publications. Strength and weakness: very broad, so searchers are likely to find results, but may be overwhelmed by quantity. INSPIRE.

Full-text of core academic journal articles, books, and primary sources in 75 disciplines.
JSTOR is a collection of scholarly journal articles in the humanities and social sciences. It's entire collection contains around 2,000 journals, although local access will vary. These are subscriptions, and chosen individually, so each collection will reflect the focus of the institution. The collection's strength lies in its complete back issues of journal titles, while a weakness is a "moving wall" limiting access to the most recent journal issues. Subscription.

The Project MUSE collection offers a comprehensive selection of prestigious humanities, arts, and social sciences journals to support a core liberal arts curriculum, with full text access to more than 300 scholarly journals.
Project Muse is a collection of established and longstanding scholarly journals in literature and criticism, history, performing arts, cultural studies, education, philosophy and religion, political science, medicine and health, and gender studies. Strengths of this collection include its caliber of content with historical and the current holdings. Subscription.

**Soon to be completely folded into JSTOR. The visual version of JSTOR, providing approximately 300,000 images. It includes architecture, painting, photography, sculpture, decorative arts and design, as well as archeological and anthropological objects, and visual and material culture more generally.
Bibliography of the History of Art This link opens in a new window
Abstracts journal articles, books, exhibition catalogues, etc. Visual arts: traditional fine arts (painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, architecture); decorative & applied arts; material culture; photography & contemporary new media; visual arts aspects of performing arts. The name BHA has been used informally to refer to a group of databases: RAA, RILA, BHA, and IBA. The data available on the Getty Web site as of July 1, 2010, comprises two databases: BHA and RILA. BHA (Bibliography of the History of Art/Bibliographie d'histoire de l'art) covers the years 19902007; the Getty Web version includes all records with abstracts in French or English and all subject terms in French and English. RILA (Rpertoire de la litterature de l'art), covers 19751989; the Getty Web version includes all records with abstracts in English and all subject terms in English.

Art focused full-text source for finding background information about art and artists.
Oxford Art Online provides access to art reference works including the Grove Dictionary of Art and the Benezit Dictionary of Artists. It is a good starting point for studying an artist, school, medium or theme. Articles are often detailed and include bibliographies for further reading. It includes global coverage but is particularly good for western art. Includes images. Subscription.
