Assessment Resources: Institutional Learning Outcomes and Criteria

The Marian University educational experience integrates our four Franciscan Sponsorship Values: Dignity of the Individual (DI), Responsible Stewardship (RS), Peace and Justice (PJ), and Reconciliation (R) with our degree-specific and general education curriculum. This experience is enriched with experiential learning activities from our athletic, co-curricular, internship, study abroad, and transformational leadership programming. This document includes information about Marian's institutional learning outcomes and criteria. The documents below highlight where these are addressed in our TJP courses as well as findings from Fall 2024.

Marian leverages our learning management system, Canvas, to address our direct assessment needs. Canvas allows instructors to track student progress and mastery of our institutional student learning outcomes and criteria using rubrics. Transformational Journey Program (TJP) instructors aligned their course-level student learning outcomes to institutional student learning outcomes and criteria. All TJP instructors are asked to use the outcomes and rubrics found in Canvas to directly assess student learning. This step-by-step guide found will help instructors identify specific institutional learning outcomes and criteria addressed in their course and use rubrics to assess student learning.
