Hours and Flexibility
Staff at Marian are expected to work about 7.5 hours per day. Because this is a salaried position, there is built-in flexibility in how you structure those hours. You may choose to start earlier (e.g., 7:30 a.m. and end earlier) or begin later in the morning and end later in the day. Lunch times are also flexible. You may shorten lunch if you’d like to end earlier, or take a longer lunch if you need time to run errands.
What matters most is establishing a basic routine and communicating it clearly, so expectations are understood. Flexibility also extends to personal well-being: if you need to step away for a doctor’s appointment or to take care of your health, you are encouraged to do so without worrying about taking official time off.
Time Off Requests
We get 20 vacation days per fiscal year and if you don't use it, you lose it. We highly encourage taking all your vacation days, as this is an incredibly important benefit. Vacation days will "reload" starting July 1st of every year and you must use your days by June 30th.
While you can take vacation at any time, most employees target vacation during holidays and the summer. We try to stay away from taking longer vacations during the busier time of year, such as the start of the academic year or when planning for upcoming, large events. Please communicate longer vacations (more than a few days) the month prior, if possible. For a day or two off here and there, a few days notice is sufficient. If you are ill, you are encouraged to take the time you need in order to get healthy. No advance notice is needed when recovering from illness or other health-related issues.
Dress Expectations
The general dress code is business casual, with jeans being perfectly acceptable for day-to-day work. Many staff choose to wear Marian University polos, which is a simple option but not required. When facilitating workshops, presenting, or representing CTL in front of larger groups, professional attire is encouraged. We want to ensure that our appearance fits the context of the event or setting.
