MUAC Onboarding - Faculty

The Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) is a liaison between the academic and athletic departments within the institution. The FAR plays a crucial role in promoting the academic success and well-being of student-athletes while upholding the integrity of the athletic program. This position requires a deep understanding of both academic and athletic environments.  The FAR should be viewed by faculty and student-athletes as an accessible source of information, support, and guidance: to enhance the student-athlete experience, be a partner in academic support, and provide guidance to faculty and student-athletes as an advocate.

1. Academic Support:
   • Provide academic guidance and support to student-athletes, ensuring they meet eligibility requirements and progress towards graduation.
   • Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty to develop academic plans for student-athletes, considering their athletic commitments.
   • Monitor student-athletes' academic progress and intervene when necessary to address any academic challenges.
2. Student-Athlete Welfare
   • Advocate for the overall well-being of student-athletes, including their physical, mental, and emotional health.
   • Provide guidance and resources for student-athletes to balance their academic and athletic commitments effectively.
3. Institutional Representation
   • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and athletic department personnel to foster a positive relationship between academics and athletics.

• Provide weekly communication to faculty on those student-athletes participating in athletic events that take them from class time.
• Meet routinely with athletic department to discuss processes, trends, and at-risk student-athletes.
• Monitor weekly student-athlete class attendance. Talks with athletic department regarding student-athletes that are showing tendencies of missing classes.
