For this activity, a member of your group will use the random number generator below. Open the case study that corresponds to the number generated.
Each case study will direct you to a different article and have questions for you to answer. Use all the tools you have at your disposal to gather information about the article:
- PubMed
- Google Scholar
- Beall's List
- Retraction Watch Database
- Quackwatch
- Your research skills
It is okay if you can't answer all of the questions, just do your best.
Accessing the articles mentioned in the case studies may be facilitated by installing the LibKey Nomad browser extension. For a link to LibKey and instructions on installing, follow this link then click on the LibKey Nomad tab in the top box.
Pick a spokesperson for your group. When we come back together as a class, you will be asked to present your findings. You will be asked some leading questions to help you along (this is a very low-stakes presentation).
If you run into any issues while in your breakout groups, email me at glutz@marian.edu
