New Faculty Orientation

New, full-time faculty receive a New Faculty Orientation every August. This guide covers important information about this orientation so faculty feel informed and supported.

What is NFO?

WELCOME to Marian University!

We are so glad you’re here and feel honored to welcome you to the Marian University community! We are committed to supporting your transition as a new member of our faculty.

Our Commitment to You

To assure each and every full-time faculty member can start their new position with full knowledge of the systems, processes, and expectations of the university, all new full-time faculty are expected to attend and fully participate in New Faculty Orientation (NFO).  NFO is comprised of two parts:

  • An intensive week before classes start: The NFO intensive training starts two weeks prior to the start of classes.  The first four days of this portion of the program will be in-person on the Indianapolis campus. For those teaching at campuses that are out-of-state, please contact Mona Kheiry to discuss attendance options (mkheiry@marian.edu).
  • A weekly seminar throughout the academic year: In addition to the intensive week, there will be meetings held on Thursdays throughout the fall and spring semesters. Indianapolis faculty are expected to attend in person. Online options will be available for faculty at our other campuses.

This robust orientation is our commitment to you, ensuring you have the information, connections, and support you need to be successful at the university for years to come.

Target Audience

The new Faculty Orientation is specifically for full-time faculty, including visiting faculty. While teaching staff and part-time faculty are welcome to attend sessions they find useful, the orientation is designed specifically for full-time faculty. Orientation compensation is for full-time faculty, only.

Orientation Compensation

Since the orientation activities are required, those full-time faculty with contracts that have not yet started will receive $500 for attending the intensive week.  Lodging and travel will be compensated for those not living in the Indianapolis area. In addition, every department is being asked to provide their faculty a course release the fall semester for attending the once-weekly sessions. More details are located in this guide about compensation.  Compensation is for full-time faculty, only.
