Library Policies: Rooms

Facility Use

The Hackelmeier Library is committed to providing a quiet, welcoming, respectful atmosphere conducive to study and research in an environment that is comfortable, clean, and safe for both library users and staff.  Any behavior that interferes with the operation of the Library or its users may be considered disruptive.  The conduct of any individual using the Library is governed by all University policies, including the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. Users who do not adhere to conduct guidelines outlined in University or Library policies may be asked to leave and may be subject to University disciplinary action.

Reserving space

The library is an academic unit, and it is not feasible to separate its function from the facility. Library services and programming change regularly, and use of the building on the Marian University Indianapolis campus by a department for the same event annually cannot be guaranteed. Programming needs are filled in the following order of priority:

1. Programs developed by the Director of the Library

2. Classes scheduled by the Registrar

3. Groups and displays scheduled by the Office of Conferences and Events

4. Outside groups assigned by the Office of Conferences and Events who have paid the established rental fee for the use of a specific space on the Marian University Indianapolis campus

All bookings that include food service, use of the upper floors, or use of the building after hours on the Marian University Indianapolis campus must be approved first by the Director of the Library and then coordinated through the Office of Conferences and Events.

Events scheduled outside normal library operating hours must have a Marian University employee present in the building at all times. The event coordinator must submit the name of said employee to the Director of the Library. The event coordinator must work with Campus Police to ensure the building is secured at the conclusion of the event.

Learning Space

The Library's Learning Space is available for group collaborations. Located on the second floor, the Learning Space provides dry erase boards for planning and brainstorming, while monitors are available for presentations and group work. Each monitor has a box of equipment that can be checked out from the library. Instructions for use are included in the box as well as next to the plugs under the monitors. Dry erase markers and erasers are available at the circulation desk.
