New Faculty Orientation

New, full-time faculty receive a New Faculty Orientation every August. This guide covers important information about this orientation so faculty feel informed and supported.

Compensation Details

Stipend

If your contract date doesn't start until the week after the intensive portion of the orientation (the portion of the orientation that is two weeks prior to the start of the undergraduate fall semester), then you will receive a $500 stipend for participating in the NFO intensive week.  The $500 stipend is specifically provided for full-time and visiting faculty not yet in contract for attending the orientation days, which equates to $125 per day.  The stipend will be adjusted for any potential missed orientation days and/or sessions, which also includes any missed days labeled as "optional" on the orientation agenda. Part-time faculty or teaching staff are not eligible for the stipend.

Fall Course Release

As new faculty at Marian University, your contract should include one course release for the fall semester for attending the required orientation onboarding program (NFO).  We work with your program area to let them know to include this in your contract, however, this may not always be possible.  Please discuss with your chair or dean if you have questions about the course release.

Non-Local Participants

Since in-person attendance is required for the Indianapolis and Ancilla campuses for the intensive portion of the orientation, those participating in the orientation who live near the Ancilla campus will be compensated for accommodations and mileage. We book the lodging for you.

If travelling from a further distance is necessary (requiring flights), then it's possible that you can attend virtually. However, this is not ideal given the level of engagement required during the NFO. In addition, if you are not required to attend the NFO (teaching staff or those who are not starting until the following semester, etc.) but are choosing to attend in person, flights/travel will not be compensated.
