Our Mission
To be a great Catholic university dedicated to achieving excellence in learning, which is achieved through teaching, research, and scholarly activities in the Franciscan and liberal arts tradition.

Our Vision
To provide an education distinguished in its ability to prepare transformative leaders for service to the world.

Our Values
To reflect prayerfully on the Gospels to determine the ways we can advance the dignity of the individual, peace and justice, reconciliation, and responsible stewardship. Our educational philosophy is rooted in the following Franciscan values:

  • Dignity of the Individual: Respecting each person as a unique creation.
  • Peace and Justice: Promoting harmony and fairness in our community and beyond.
  • Reconciliation: Encouraging healing and understanding among all people.
  • Responsible Stewardship: Managing resources wisely for the common good.

What is the Franciscan Intellectual Tradition?

The Franciscan Intellectual Tradition is a way of understanding the world rooted in the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi. It emphasizes the dignity of every person, care for creation, the importance of community, and a spirit of joy and humility. At Marian University, this tradition influences how we approach education, relationships, and service—encouraging a compassionate, holistic view of knowledge and learning. Whether or not you come from a faith background, these values help shape an inclusive and supportive environment for all members of our campus community.
