“MoonTree Studios, a ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, challenges people to experience mindfulness as they fearlessly explore the interconnectedness of art, nature, and the Spirit within.” – MoonTree Mission Statement
All faculty/staff and students are welcome to utilize MoonTree at no charge. MoonTree consists of 3 buildings. The center building houses the art gallery, clay and painting studios, and staff offices. The building on the left houses a woodshop and hosts other activities such as glass blowing and stained glass. The building on the right, The Lodge, is a private residence for a sister as well as artists in residence. Some classes, such as yoga, are held in The Lodge.
Single-person kayaks are available for checkout by students and employees of Marian University's Ancilla College. Kayaks are located on the west side of the lake, near the fire pit, and can be checked out at the Motherhouse's reception desk.
To check out a kayak, students and employees must present their driver's license at the receptionist's desk. The receptionist will provide instructions and a key. Life vests and oars will be provided. After use, return the kayak to its original location and return the key to the reception desk to retrieve your driver's license. Please report any issues. If you are using your own kayak, launch from the designated area on the west side of the lake and follow all safety procedures.
Life vests are required at all times. Do not kayak alone, and ensure you pack a communication device.
Students, employees, and their families are welcome to fish at the public access point on the south side of the lake. A fishing license, as required by the DNR, is necessary. Please bring your own fishing equipment and adhere to posted designated fishing areas for an enjoyable experience.
Fishing is also permitted for students and employees at the kayak launch site on the west side of the lake near the fire pit. Exercise caution to avoid disturbing the bank and slipping into the lake.
Additionally, students and employees may fish from the dock on the north side of the lake, but only when the pontoon is not docked.
