Webex

Welcome to the resource page for Webex, Marian's collaboration tool.

Activating Webex in Canvas

Webex is an educational technology and communication tool that provides web conferencing and enables students to join a live virtual session. By providing a collaborative and engaging experience to students, Webex also provides real-time polling, virtual breakout rooms, quizzes, attention monitoring tools, and threaded Q&As for the maximized online learning experience.

Activating Webex in a Canvas Course

  1. Open your Canvas course and select "Settings" on the left-hand side of your course screen.
  2. Once in Settings, switch to the Settings tab titled "Navigation”.
  3. Find "Webex" in the list of resources disabled for student access and either drag it up to the top section or click on the three dots and click on Enable.
  4. Click on Save at the bottom of the page.

Setting up Webex in Canvas

Setting Up Webex in a Canvas Course

  1. On your Canvas course menu, select "Webex"
  2. On your first visit to Webex on a Canvas course, you will need to determine which features to activate in your course. Under "Setup" activate the options you wish to use.
    • Meetings allows you to schedule and host a one-time or recurring Webex meeting with your class. Students will be able to join these meetings and view recordings from this tab in Canvas.
    • Other recordings allows you to import your recordings from Webex and share them in any of your courses.
      • The recommendation is to transition recordings you want to share out of a single course from Webex into Yuja. See the Yuja page here for more information.
    • Office hours allows you to set availability and indicate times when students can meet with you. The office hours you set apply to every course that you're an instructor for.
    • Classroom Collaboration: Set up classroom collaboration to create a team in the Webex App for those enrolled in this course. From the Webex App, you can manage team settings, create spaces, and more.
  3. Choose the Time Zone for the course and then click Save.
