CTL Events

The Center for Teaching and Learning develops and facilitates professional development offerings every semester. Here are our offerings.

Summer, 2025

The CTL is working in partnership with the Marian Learning Community to offer professional development this summer on alternative grading. More information:

Traditional grading can create stress, discourage risk-taking, and fail to reflect student learning. Alternative grading methods—such as ungrading, specifications grading, and mastery-based grading—offer more transparent, equitable, and growth-oriented ways to assess students. Join a community of practice this summer to explore alternative grading and redesign a course you plan to teach in the 2025-26 academic year.

This synchronous online learning community will meet twice weekly from May 12 to June 20 (times based on participant availability), providing structured support to help you implement equity-focused assessment practices as early as Summer Session II (starting June 23). Participants will complete approximately 20 total hours of work and receive a $1000 stipend upon submission of a syllabus and example assessment.

Please fill out this form if interested.

If you have questions or concerns about the schedule with your summer plans, please reach out to Sarah Justice (sjustice@marian.edu) or Sarah Klanderman (sklanderman@marian.edu).
