Archives: What is an Archives?


Archives, sometimes called archival repositories, contain materials such as diaries, letters, and photos that are preserved because these materials have long-term value for research. 


Collections Overview

The Marian University Archives contains documents relating to the founding of Marian College with a focus on the early history of the school, documents relating to the Sisters of St. Francis, artifacts, and publications. An overview of our collections includes:

Archival arrangement differs from the library, in that the archives is arranged by assession and collection. For example, donated materials may be accommodated into current collections or turned into their own collection and shelved together. Due to this arrangement, most material in the archives will not be shelved together by subject. Please contact library staff for any assistance in finding materials.
