New Faculty Resources

This guide is a "One-Stop Shop" for new full-time and adjunct faculty, providing a snapshot of what they need when starting at Marian.

These courses are a collection of those available for faculty to use. Some of them are geared toward getting to know Canvas better for New Users, others are targeted toward learning how to use different tools in Canvas.

  • Teaching and Learning Online at Marian University – This is a short, self-paced course where instructors who may be interested in teaching online can get a basic understanding of Canvas, experience what it’s like to take an online course and think through their thoughts and concerns about teaching online.
  • Teaching Online Series – This course is a resource shared with us through Indiana University. It contains several modules on a variety of topics including course design, instructor readiness, utilization of Canvas, and general information on best practices.
  • Faculty Resource Course – This “course” is a compilation of examples, instructions, and explanations of best practices for creating the various components within Canvas courses.
  • Canvas Instructor Orientation - This course has been designed by Instructure for Canvas instructors looking to learn how to use their system. It has modules on how to add content, build assignments, organize materials, structure assessments, and establish a presence.
  • LockDown Browser and Monitor Overview - This course was created to demonstrate the use of Respondus' LockDown Browser and Monitor for monitoring students taking online exams. These tools should be used together on high-stakes exams and quizzes.
