Personalized Learning Center

The staff at the Personalized Learning Center collaborates with students and faculty in an interactive process to establish accommodations in a supportive and reasonable way. This may also involve connecting students with additional campus resources, such as peer tutoring, academic success coaching, and career exploration services.

The staff at the Personalized Learning Center will collaborate with you to ensure that your accommodations are met. Possible accommodations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Extending test time
  • Preferential seating
  • Readers for test questions
  • Scribes for tests
  • Reduced distraction testing environment
  • Adaptive technology (magnifier, screen readers, speech-to-text software)

Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library

The Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library supports the Marian University community by ensuring equitable access to information in various formats. It aligns with Franciscan values and promotes educational goals for students, faculty, and staff. Key commitments include safeguarding user privacy, integrating technology, organizing resources, fostering a welcoming environment, collaborating with other libraries, and developing a diverse collection while serving as an intellectual and cultural center for the community.

Academic Commons

Marian University's Academic Commons offers various support services for students, faculty, and staff. ​ Key services include:

  1. Peer Tutoring: One-on-one support for specific courses, writing, and speaking, available face-to-face, online, and asynchronously. ​ Appointments must be scheduled at least 12 hours in advance. ​

  2. Group Learning: Regularly scheduled, course-specific sessions led by trained peers to help with understanding course content, exam preparation, and projects. ​ Types include Supplemental Instruction, Active Learning, and Group Tutoring. ​

  3. Graduate & Scholarly Writing Consultations: Personalized consultations for writing, research, and educational technology, available to graduate students, faculty, and staff. ​ Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. ​

  4. Other Support: Skills workshops, community events, career development resources, multimedia support, library research support, educational technology support, and study/meeting spaces. ​

Faculty and staff are encouraged to partner with the Academic Commons by hosting office hours, promoting services, offering extra credit for participation, and recommending students for support roles. ​ For more information, contact academiccommons@marian.edu. ​

Educational Technology

Looking for innovative ways to integrate technology into your classroom? The Education Technology team can provide more support in using educational technology tools. Faculty and students have access to various tools to enhance learning, including:

  • Canvas: Course management and student engagement.
  • Course Evaluations and Surveys: Collect feedback post-course.
  • Faculty Success: Document faculty activities for reporting.
  • Academic Commons: Large-format printing up to 42 inches wide.
  • Poll Everywhere: Real-time audience feedback.
  • Respondus: Secure testing and exam creation in Canvas.
  • ScreenPal: Create video tutorials.
  • TurnItIn: Writing support and plagiarism detection.
  • Yuja: Lecture capture and video hosting.
  • WebEx: Video conferencing for collaboration.
